SALT Centre Limited

4/114 St Georges Bay Road, Parnell

Providing assessment and therapy services for children with speech, language and communication difficulties.

Our areas of expertise are in speech delays and disorders, language (Developmental Language Disorders), communication, alternative and augmentative communication, and stuttering.

Each member of the team has many years of experience working with tamariki and whanau, focusing on the child and their goals, empowering families, advocating, and sharing knowledge and experience .

From Jos (founder of SALT Centre Limited):

SALT Centre has arisen out of my desire to form a team of therapists to develop and strengthen our individual practices (learning from each other, and becoming better therapists and a better team together). We aim to provide the best service we can to each client and family. We pursue further education in our areas of interest, and we are keen to develop relationships with other specialists and organisations to complement our own strengths.

At SALT Centre Limited, Speech and Language Therapists are actively engaged in ongoing learning and maintain memberships to relevant organisations:

- Assess children and adults for AAC/augmentative and alternative communication options - Apply for funding under CAT1 through Ministry of Health for ‘whole of life communication’ - Low – high tech options plus training and support

Nuffield Dyspraxia Centre Training

- Programme based on a motor skills learning approach with a particular emphasis on motor programming skills - Main focus on speech output, but input and representational levels of speech processing are also recognised - Bottom up approach – build accurate speech from core units of single speech sounds and simple syllables

ReST Rapid Syllable Transition Training

- An evidence-based treatment for Childhood Apraxia of Speech or Ataxic Dysarthria - uses nonsense words to allow children to concentrate on their movements, lessens the need for working on old words which already have errors (focus on coordination of movements to create correct sounds, syllable structures, rhythm/stress/prosody and fluency)

Jocelyn attended the International conference in LA September 2019 with Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist. The focus of the conference was using the ICF (international classification of Function, within disability and health) as a framework within which we work with our clients. While the focus was on children and adults with Cerebral Palsy and developmental disorders, it is applicable to all clients that we see as it is an inclusive/holistic view of the client. The ICF model is a multidimensional concept of functioning and disability and uses the F words:

FUNCTION, FAMILY, FITNESS, FUN, FRIENDS, FUTURE
